The College, Voc. Ed. Centre garden has flourished over the summer break, growing rapidly thanks to the stretch of warm weather during the holidays. Despite the challenging heat, the space has been carefully tended and watered by Steve and a couple of willing volunteers. Who have worked throughout the break to ensure that the plants seeded and nurtured by the students continued to thrive.
Their efforts are already bearing fruit. Steve has begun harvesting the first crops of beans and courgettes, which have been donated to one of our local community food partners, Curry On The Street. It marks a small but meaningful step in the development of our planned community garden — a project designed to support local initiatives while giving PCC students hands‑on experience in sustainable growing, raising their awareness of career opportunities in horticulture, and helping them build practical skills that employers value.
From teamwork and problem‑solving to plant care, environmental awareness, and community engagement, the garden is becoming a living classroom where students can develop confidence and capability in a real‑world setting.
This early success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. With more planting and harvesting ahead, the college is well on its way to building a vibrant, productive community growing space.
